February 2007 Engineering Alumni Newsletter

Greetings!

Welcome to the February edition of Engineering@Idaho, a monthly e-publication for alumni and friends of the University of Idaho's College of Engineering.

From the Dean

Dean Elshabini Dean VonBraun in Cairo What an exciting time to be a part of the College of Engineering! Already, 2007 has been filled with an abundance of excitement and the rest of it is sure to make this year one to remember. Last week, I was in Egypt with Margrit von Braun, the Dean of the College of Graduate Studies. We are working with two institutions in Cairo to bring fully funded Ph.D. students to Idaho, one of the exciting ways we're working to make Idaho a truly global campus.

University of Idaho Transportation Researchers Shift Down on Truckers and Traffic Signals
Eighteen wheels, cargo weight and inertia make quick stops at intersections a tricky proposition for truck drivers. Student and faculty researchers at the University of Idaho's National Institute for Advanced Transportation Technology (NIATT) tackled the question of traffic flow, intersections and stopping characteristics by developing new traffic signals that factor in the needs of big rigs.
