Greetings!
Welcome to the April edition of Engineering@Idaho, a monthly e-publication for alumni and friends of the University of Idaho’s College of Engineering.
From The Dean
The College of Engineering is an exciting place this time of year. The activity and energy in our labs and classes is incredible with many of the students putting the last finishing touches on their senior design projects. We are proud of the accomplishments of our students such as Jenn Miller who just returned from Kenya as part of her senior design activity, our clean snowmobile team who just returned from national competition and our Autonomous Underwater Vehicle team who recently celebrated successful field testing of its project. These are only three of the exciting activities happening in the College this spring.
It is a great time to visit the University of Idaho. Last Friday, more than 1,000 students visited the UI campus during Vandal Friday, a special event for incoming freshman. This month, we have:
--Engineering Expo 2006, April 28
--Golden I celebration, April 28-29
--Mom's weekend and the annual Silver and Gold Scrimmage, April 21-22
--Spring Commencement, May 13
We look forward to seeing you at any or all of these events. Stop by the Dean's office and say hello.
Dean Charles Peterson

Student Activities & Achievements
UI Students Take on Polluted Drinking Water in Kenya
At the University of Idaho, a student team was searching for a capstone design project, a requirement of senior engineering students for graduation. Boeing retiree Eric Morris of Seattle challenged the UI team to address the problems set forth by the U.N. and in particular the scarcity of safe drinking water in third world countries, and focusing on East Africa.
