You bring the skills. JEMS offers the challenges that will hone them. Designed for students who have completed at least their junior year of high school, the Idaho Junior Engineering, Math and Science (JEMS) Summer Workshop provides an introduction to engineering through study of real-world problems within their technical and social contexts.

2009 JEMS Summer Workshop
Participants will experience life as a college student for two weeks through coursework, teamwork, and living in campus housing with current engineering student mentors. It's not all serious business, however. Students also have barbeques, pizza parties, field trips, and access to several University of Idaho recreational facilities.
The Idaho JEMS curriculum includes classes in engineering design, computer-aided design, problem-solving and introductory engineering taught by College of Engineering professors. Each year classes specific to a design project, such as environmental engineering, computer programming, robotics, or computer graphics, are also offered. This year, students will explore the future of our country's infrastructure through the JEMS Summer Transportation Institute, and will design alternative energy vehicles to compete in several exciting challenges.
It may sound like work, but it's worth it. At the end of the workshop, participants earn two college engineering credits, have a better grasp of basic engineering principles, a sharper focus on what to do in their college career, and a real connection with new friends.
Engineering is for Everybody
As the fields of engineering and computer science expand their focus towards the global environment, it is even more important to increase the diversity of the individuals who pursue an engineering or computer science career. The University of Idaho College of Engineering is committed to improving diversity and supports a variety of programs designed to provide opportunities to underrepresented groups, including active chapters of the Society of Women Engineers, National Society of Black Engineers, Engineers without Borders and the American Indian Science and Engineering Society. Reinforcing these efforts, Idaho JEMS strongly encourages applications from young women, individuals from underrepresented groups and persons with disabilities.
Applying is Easy
