Jemison will talk about science innovations, discovery and her life journey on Thursday, April 24, at 7 p.m. in the ASUI-Kibbie Activity Center at the University of Idaho. The event sponsors include the university's chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE). "Mae Jemison challenges herself in so many remarkable ways," said Richard Hill, president of the university's NSBE chapter. "In her life, she models for all of us that anything is possible and rewarding. What makes her so inspiring is that she is an icon who incorporates so many different facets of leadership in our society." Hill cited many endeavors that speak to Jemison's multi-faceted approach to life: she developed a business that has an exclusive patent with NASA; served as a science mission specialist conducting bone cell research in space; and currently chairs a nonprofit organization that offers an annual international science camp for teenagers. Advance tickets for Jemison's talk are $3 and available through the University of Idaho Ticket Office at www.uitickets.com, (208) 885-7212 or toll-free (888) 884-3246; a service charge may apply. Tickets at the door are $4. For more information, Richard Hill, president, University of Idaho Chapter, National Society of Black Engineers, (208) 883-5350 or richard.hill@vandals.uidaho.edu. |
