The Center for Advanced Energy Studies delivers innovative, cost-effective, credible energy research leading to technology-based economic development. Center for Advanced Energy StudiesThe Center for Advanced Energy Studies (CAES) is a public/private partnership that includes: (1)the University of Idaho, Idaho State University and Boise State University; (2)the State of Idaho through academic research institutions; (3)the federal government through the Department of Energy; and,(4)a private entity, the Battelle Energy Alliance, which manages the Idaho National Laboratory. Through this collaborative structure, CAES integrates resources, capabilities and expertise to address the twenty-first century scientific, technical, and policy challenges associated with energy demand growth, national energy security, and global climate protection. CAES programs expand researcher-to-researcher collaborations, enhance energy-related educational opportunities; influence decision processes concerning both the appropriate energy mix and corresponding policy options; and, engage the energy industry to ensure the nation's energy security with competitive, secure and sustainable energy systems. CAES, headquartered in Idaho Falls, sponsors research programs currently underway at its four partner institutions. In 2008, CAES will open a new high-performance LEED® certified research facility in Idaho Falls. This 55,000 square-foot building will house CAES researchers and educators alongside scientists and students. Flexible laboratory space will accommodate basic science, technology development, and commercial projects focusing on radiochemistry, advanced nuclear fuels, hydrogen, advanced materials, and high-performance computation and visualization techniques. The CAES facility will also accommodate conferences and meetings and provide opportunities for students to participate in hands-on research. www.caesenergy.org |
