2008 EXPO Booth Judging Guidelines

  1. Participate in the Judge's Forum in the Gold Room at 8:15 a.m.
  2. Attend the Opening Ceremony outside the Ballroom at 8:45 a.m.
  3. Visit each of the booths you were assigned before noon.
  4. Identify yourself as an exhibit judge if the author is present.
  5. You will need to interview design team members to complete your evaluation.
    1. If the team is not present (due to a technical presentation or a class), they should leave a message when they intend to return.
  6. Use the evaluation forms to give a rating in each category as well as a summary score based on student responses. Note you will need to ask questions about (i) design for customer requirements, (ii)relevant engineering standards & constraints, (iii)impact of engineering solutions, (iv) awareness of life-long learning issues related to each project.
  7. Please stay within a 2-hour timeframe for your judging activities by limiting the time you devote to each booth to 10 minutes.
  8. Please complete this sheet and return it, stapled to your individual rating forms, to the Expo Registration desk located on the first floor of the SUB by 12:00 p.m.

Booths will be judged in four ABET competency areas based on your discussion/responses to questions on a 1-5 scale. Attributes of incomplete, complete, and exemplary responses are given for your guidance in EXPO preparation and assigning scores.

ABET Competency Incomplete (1 point) Complete (3 points) Exemplary (5 points) Sub-Score (5 points max)
Design for Customer Requirements Cursory discussion of few design features without reference to customer requirements Discussion of some design features in light of some customer requirements Thorough discussion of design features addressing nearly all customer requirements along with some future considerations
Realistic Engineering Standards & Constraints Identification of some constraints without supporting analysis Explanation of most constraints and some supporting analysis Prioritization of constraints based on detailed analysis
Broad Impact of Engineering Solutions Describes only general impacts related to the project Knowledgeable about specific impacts related to project Able to identify and evaluate design alternatives that minimize negative impacts related to project
Awareness of Life-Long Learning Issues Superficial awareness of personal strengths/needs for improvement related to project Able to identify and explain strengths and articulate goals for improvement related to project Able to prioritize and assess strengths and outline plan for improvement in key areas as they relate to project
